A&s;P has laid off 700 workers in Europe and U.K., as the coronavirus threat to the U.N. food supply threatens to force it to close its plants, The Wall Street Journal reported on Monday.
The layoffs were part of the global restructuring of A&Ps food and beverage operations, according to a person familiar with the matter.
The move came amid concerns about the health of a number of A.P. and P.&%;s brands, which are often the cornerstone of the company’s food and drink business.
In Europe, where the company has been building out its operations in the U, some of its other global brands are facing more difficult times as a result of the coronovirus outbreak.
A&.p. said that in Europe it will reduce the number of employees at its offices in London and Frankfurt to 1,500 from 3,000, the company said in a statement.
A&ps.;s London operations will also be cut to 2,500 people from 4,000.
The Frankfurt operations will be cut by 2,000 from 4:30 p.m. to 5 p.M. and the London offices will be shut down from midnight to 5 a.m., the statement said.
A P&.;s operations in Brazil, where a coronavid outbreak has killed more than 100 people and displaced more than 2.7 million, are also being shut down.
